INTRODUCTION

Saving Lives Through Partnership, Prevention, and Preparedness

Sudden cardiac arrest resulting from ventricular fibrillation is one of the causes of death of thousands around the world annually, where the important role of awareness about the importance of first aid, including training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator, has emerged as one of the most important preventive interventions that may save people exposed to such serious health events.
In continuation of the efforts of the Ministry of Health and Population in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the World Health Organization’s General Program of Action 2030, which includes in one of its most important axes – the global, Egypt’s Vision 2030, and the National Health Strategy 2024 – reducing premature deaths and providing the necessary awareness and prevention to achieve this goal.
In light of the Ministry of Youth and Sports’ ongoing role in strengthening the health care system in the sports field to maintain health safety standards within sports facilities, as well as implementing all health practices that provide athletes with a safe sports environment. Whereas the Cardiovascular Research, Education & Prevention Foundation (CVREP) is one of the largest institutions that has a prominent role in providing training and awareness programs and courses in the field of heart diseases and raising awareness among the public and athletes.
The parties agreed to cooperate in implementing this initiative, which aims to train appropriate calibers in various sports and public facilities, training in cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED). Therefore, a Protocol was issued to establish the foundations for joint cooperation between all parties.

OUR VISION

To create a heart-safe community by raising awareness, enhancing preparedness, and equipping individuals with life-saving skills to prevent sudden cardiac death, ensuring prompt and effective response in sports and public facilities.

OUR MISSION

INITIATIVE OBJECTIVES

  • Increase awareness & educate the public, athletes, coaches, and facility staff on the risks and prevention of sudden cardiac death (SCD).
  • Promote knowledge of early warning signs and emergency response protocols.
  • Train and certify personnel in sports and public facilities in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
  • Develop standardized training programs aligned with international guidelines to ensure high-quality emergency response.
  • Establish a network of trained responders in sports venues, gyms, schools, and public spaces.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Sudden Cardiac Death Awareness Initiative ” Hands that saves ” is a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Cardiovascular Research, Education & Prevention Foundation (CVREP) and managed by Expand . This initiative is designed to train qualified personnel in sports clubs and public facilities across the country in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of automated external defibrillators (AEDs), providing both theoretical and hands-on training.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports will be responsible for identifying and nominating trainees from various clubs and youth centers nationwide. These selected individuals will be invited to participate in structured training programs implemented by the CVREP, ensuring adherence to the agreed-upon training plans. The Ministry of Health will be in charge of developing a training plan and reviewing the awareness content, with administrative oversight of the training implementation, and coordinating with all parties to ensure adherence to the agreed-upon training plans.
Additionally, CVREP will conduct the theoretical part which will include awareness lectures and workshops and the Hands- on training to educate both the public and athletes on the importance of AEDs and their proper usage.
To maintain the highest standards, the content of the awareness lectures will be coordinated with the Ministry of Health and CVREP, ensuring that the necessary materials and equipment are provided for effective training sessions. The Initiative will be held for a whole year starting February 2025
